I just had lunch at this new place. Am Hispanic, therefore I love the rice dishes. The chicken soup was great. Had a pork chop and it was fresh, moist not dry. My friends had the beef soup and various beef dishes. I am not a fan of black beans and the beans were seasoned well and I enjoyed them. What I found lacking was the selection of deserts. Where is the tres leche, budin, flan and authentic rice pudding? I realize that this just started up and will visit again with my friends. Do agree if you are not Hispanic you do not know what the dishes are...they need to label. Otherwise I would recommend this place, if you like Cuban, Puerto Rican, Dominican food, there is something for all three groups.

Food was not bad. I am rating 1 star just because they did not have many options for a buffet. Good location, lots of parking, clean and nice. We went on a Sunday for late lunch and they just have rice and a couple of options of meat. No seafood or salad or dessert.

Please just do yourself a favor and read the review below written by James D. This is the only buffet I've ever been to that makes you pay before you are seated. In retrospect, I know why: it's because they wouldn't make any money otherwise. I lived across the street from El Balcon and waited patiently while they did renovations after the chinese buffet there went out of business. Boy, oh boy was this place not worth the wait. The food was garbage. Oversalted, underseasoned, too cold, too hot, unlabeled items, and a poor selection. Very disappointing.

Please don't go to this place . ! If you love your family don't go !. I have two days with stomach pain . The food is over condiment. The pork under cook !. The pasta way to much salt. Desert !, OMG! , just a simple jelly was rotten. They advertise Latin food put is just a combine of regular chines options and Puerto Rican food ( just a few dishes ). This is the first buffet I know you have to pay before get in. Now I know why.

Please don't waste your $ here is not worth it. The food was not fresh, the rice was uncooked...Not good at all.

I have come here over 5 times, at the beggining was very good. Now it's terrible, the food is bad and the selection is bad too

We tried this place once with our children. It was awful! They actually ran out of food, drinks and dessert. Excuse me? To add insult to injury after we paid and sat down what was left was old, cold and nasty. We always try to be good sports about trying new places but it was so bad we walked out and went some where else. I've had amazing quality Spanish food here in FL and in PR and this place shouldn't be advertising they are a Latino buffet.. taco bell would be a better choice.

We had to leave today on Sunday there was almost no food in their trays, Im glad the line at the cashier was long and it gave me time to look before we pay... Adios I will never eat here.

The taste and the service is ok. The food were cold not hot. I just made it during lunch, the tostones were cold and gummy. The chicken breast was dried, I used the sauce from chicken stew to moist the breast. The black beans were to liquid, I preferred a more thick stew.

We just tried this place for the first time, this used to be good fortune buffet and many other things in the past. The food was not bad and they have a decent selection but like other reviewers mentioned nothing was labeled so you don't really know what it is. They also have 5 different kinds of rice as well and a lot of chicken. The interior was pretty clean for the most part. Our waitress was nice but she asked us 8 times if we were okay and yes I counted. once is good enough for me, but overall not bad

Read the reviews and a bit hesitant but figured I would have to find out for myself. We arrived on Labor Day just as they opened so food was fresh out of the kitchen. Variety was good. Nothing Asian was out yet but that was fine since we were there for the Latin food. We thought all the meats were perfectly seasoned and the pork was awesomely tender. I am a big fan of Maduros and I ate plenty. They red beans were great too. The place looked really nice and super clean. The staff were all friendly and attentive. I have to say really good food for the price. Worth a try if you are in the mood for Latin food.

On Arrested Development, Michael Bluth opens his freezer and finds a brown paper bag labeled with the words "DEAD DOVE - Do Not Eat". Curiously, he opens the bag, sees a dead dove inside, and exclaims, "I don't know what I expected." El Balcon is that dead dove. After Good Fortune Buffet, the last tenant of the building closed, I was intrigued when I saw a Latin buffet would be the replacement. Sure, Good Fortune was a little gross, as are many buffets, but buffets can also bring happiness when done well. On a Friday evening I noticed they had just opened up, so I messaged a group of friends to find out who wanted to join me Saturday for lunch. No one, not even my wife was interested. When you talk about winners and losers, they all ended up being the winners with that decision. When I arrived, I took in the interior as I was lead to my seat. Based on how long the remodel took, I was surprised at how little changed. It mostly appeared to be window dressing, as the hostess stand and food troughs were in the same locations. They definitely did work, but things like carpet and paint rather than structural. The biggest change I noticed was the addition of a small stage near the front of the building, which I assume will be used for live music, or perhaps weddings. After being seated, I ordered a water, and decided to scout the options I was being presented with. "I've made a huge mistake." instantly came to mind. The very first thing I noticed was how few labels there were. I wouldn't want to guess how many items they had in total, but I would say fewer than 5% were actually labeled. I'm hoping that has changed, because the look of complete confusion on the faces of everyone was pitiful. People would pick up a giant spoon and move it around just to get an idea of what items were. "It's OK, I like Latin food, I'll just try a little bit of everything and figure out what's good." I said to myself. Of the few items labeled, they were the typical items you would expect at a Latin buffet; Bourbon chicken, krab rangoon, beefaroni, and spaghetti and meatballs. If you've read my reviews before, this is where I would normally exclaim "I fucking love meatballs!" Well, this is a very different review. I skipped the meatballs, as well as the many Chinese, Italian, and American options and stuck only to the Latin food. I wish I could say what I got, but again... None of it was labeled. I had what was easily the greasiest picadillo I've ever had, along with an incredibly dry empanada which was filled with more of that same greasy picadillo. Sadly, the picadillo made a few more appearances, including in some casserole with mashed potatoes. I had at least four different rice dishes, a few bean dishes, and a few rice AND bean dishes. I should make it clear that these were all very small samples I took, since everything was so suspect. After picking through my first plate, I begrudging decided to get a second plate. Let that sink in for a second:You don't go to buffets to have just one plate of food, and here I was, forcing myself to try more things, just to be fair. The second plate was a lot like the first. Rice, beans... I had some chicken wing that a woman told me were "Latin wings"... It was sad. I tried both the sliced pork and sliced steak... Also sad. Sensing a theme here? I tried something that reminded me of chicharron, but dry and hard as a rock, and something that reminded me of a rock but was disguised as chicken. Like the rice, there were lots of chicken dishes all stewing in different juices. Some were OK, while others were... also just OK. Those were probably some of the better items I tried, but that still didn't make me want any more than a small piece of chicken I took out of each trough. I read a complaint that there were no fajitas, tamales, nachos, tacos, burritos, or enchiladas, but I don't find that to be a fair complaint. This was a Latin buffet, not a Mexican buffet. The issue was not as much what foods were missing, but how forgettable the ones were that they did have. I think people be confusing the picadillo for taco meat. The reason they don't have things like shells or cheese is because they aren't meant to have tacos. They had some desserts, but honestly I couldn't bring myself to try any of it. So why two stars after this train-wreck? The server was very friendly, and, at least when I went, the place was clean. The biggest compliment I can give was that afterwards, I remained friends with my stomach and never had to make an emergency run to the restroom. The food though... I don't know what I expected.

"I've had better" "it's ok" that pretty much sums it up. The biggest issue I had with this place is there are no labels on any the food. I just happen to be with my mom and she knew several of the dishes. I'm Hispanic so I knew most of the dishes but labels would have been nice. You can always tell the quality of a Hispanic place by the rice and beans. While they offered several types of rice and beans they were just ok. They also kept changing one dish for another completely different dish. So if you found something you liked and went back for more it would be replaced by something else. The salad options were limited but their potato salad was tasty. It also looked like there was a soup bar set up but no soups ever showed up :( Our drinks were always full and the restrooms and eating area were very clean. The price for dinner was $8.99 and it was $2.68 for drinks. This one trip will most likely be my only trip.

I went by my self this time, last time with the family it was bad but I always give a new establishment a second chance. I'm not going to do a big right up, all I will say this is my last visit.

This place has promise for sure unfortnatley we tried it after 8pm and it seemed as though they were just trying to wrap it up for the night. The beef stew was awesome. But no pernil? Really? I'll give it another shot at lunch at some point but as of now I'm disappointed Id been waiting a long time for this place to open. 9.99 for dinner I expect it to be fully stocked.

I should have taken pictures, but really there is no point. I believe only 5 things were labeled through the buffet. Everything lacked flavor or was over done. In most cases it was both lacking in flavor and over cooked. Missed opportunity to really punch in some flavor and tenderness. No hints on basic garlic and herbs throughout all the dishes I tried. The fish was the best thing..... once I scrapped off the overly tart lime mayo. Even my plantains were exceptionally bad, and that's basic latin cuisine 101! The restaurant itself is bare minimum. No salt or pepper on the tables or any condiments of any kind. I had to practically case down my sullen and disenchanted waitress. How hard is it to put a few Goya packets in the beans? I was really looking forward to this place and now I know never to return. I should have saved the $ 17.00( for two people for the Lunch Buffet) and cooked at home. But for now on I'll continue to get my latin food from the Peruvians at La Granja.

One word! HORRIBLE!! Food was not good at all, most of it wasn't labelled and poor variety! I paid $10 to eat arroz con dulce only goo thing that day! And to top it off the first and only time we went they had a ghetto style argument among what seemed to be employees and patrons (or whatever) point is they were all over the place. They had a girl making phones calls which scared people around her, even the police was involved!!!! To make matters worst they took it outside (too late if you ask me) and they continued the argument right at the door! Better going to the grocery store and cooking at home. One positive note, waiter was super nice and friendly!

I was a bit excited about the eating at the new Latin buffet that took the place of the previous Chinese buffet. I have eaten many Latin dishes over the years and found them to be quite tasteful and honestly expected to find nothing but Latin dishes. I was disappointed in the presentation of the food. I am not of Latin dissent and although familiar with some dishes over the years the ones on display were not labeled as to what they were or what type of meats etc. they contained or for the few that had labels were labeled incorrectly. I was familiar with the picadillo and the several rice dishes but these had no resemblance to the taste that I had known them to be. I was a bit surprised to find chicken nuggets, fries (with dried cheese on top), waffle fries, chicken wings, spaghetti noodles, out of the bag meatballs. All the food that I did attempt to eat was extremely dry and seemed as if it had been sitting out to long. The deserts again disappointing not one single Latin dish only dry chocolate/vanilla cake, canned pudding, canned fruit cocktail, and browning cut up apples. I found the soft drinks to be a bit on the expensive side. I cannot recall a time I had paid 2.58 for soda and they had coke products, again no authentic drink options. On a positive note, the place appeared to be clean. I will not be returning.
